Success Characteristic Number Three | Purpose

Success Characteristic Number Three: Purpose
This is so simple and clear at times it is difficult to see why others struggle with this so mightily.  A life that exists without a defined, clear and stated purpose is a life of no meaning.  This unfortunate soul has no mission – no reason for being.   And guess what – “making alot of money” doesn’t count!  Winners have meaning to their life. Losers do not. Losers stumble about from here to there and wonder what happened!  Successful entrepreneurs with a meaning and a purpose in their life are able to stay on track towards their goals and objectives.   Successful people live a life of purpose – they often use the language of  “staying on purpose”.   Losers live accidentally, life happens to them, not experiencing it with a sense of wonder and joy, but more frequently as “victims of circumstance”  instead of as a creator of the circumstances in their lives.  The sooner you write down the succinct and true purpose of your life, the sooner you will discover the success, happiness and personal fulfillment that you deserve.

Two critical clarifications:

  • Your purpose does not have to be unselfish or measure up to anyone else’s standards except your own.
  • It must however possess “what’s in it for me”.  This means for you personally and for a successful entrepreneur – if you are sharing your mission, your purpose, your “why” with a customer – it must have what’s in it for them!

a business that serves your lifeMy mission is to help people build businesses that serve their lives – this being the alternative to the “live to work” mentality and behavior so common with many of my baby boomer peers!  In reading my mission tagline – it could on initial review appear “fuzzy”, even altruistic.  But it is not.  I am building a business to serve my life and my family’s life.  That is IT for me!  I am looking to share my discoveries and learnings with other “like-minded” entrepreneurs.   I refer to my mission as a picture frame – your business – your dream – fills in the frame.  I am here to help you – not to have you adopt my business.   As Denis Waitley Says “No man or woman is an island.  To exist just for yourself is meaningless.  You can achieve the most satisfaction when you feel related to some greater purpose in life, something greater than yourself” This attitude reflects a change in my career and business life – fellow baby boomers – it is never too late to change!
