We are always thankful for beauty in our life. Art is beautiful to the beholder and powerful when there is a special meaning behind the art. Each day I am reminded of beauty in my life and the original art that marked special events and even the wonderful serendipity of events that blesses our lives – so I wanted to share those with you.
First Serendipitous Event
Back about ten years ago I had come across an artist named Katie Upton and purchased one of her prints at a gallery in Boulder CO where I lived at the time and had it framed it was a gift I purchased for myself at the time. Six or seven years later Noelle and I were visiting my son Tim in Santa Barbara (he is a golf pro there). We picked up a local magazine in one of the stores on State Street there. Inside was a picture of the painting below (which we are blessed to own) and of course as you can see Katie has a very unique style. All that was in the picture was a phone number and name of a local gallery. We called the number and were slightly stunned that Katie answered the phone. So we told her how much we loved her work and that we owned one of her prints already. Katie such a friendly and warm person – she actually invited us to her studio which happened to be in the hills above the Mission in Santa Barbara. She was working in the studio at the
time and asked if we would like to come by! We of course said yes, got a personal tour of her studio! we got some great pictures of her at work , her works of love surrounding her and a picture of her with the original painting we bought from her at her studio! If you do a Google search for Katie Upton – you will actually see our “famous” painting Red Horse #2.
Second Artistic Happening
So the next event actually took place before the Katie Upton serendipitous event. Noelle and I were married at the Flagstaff House outside Boulder CO in 2004. You can see a picture taken at our reception at the Flagstaff House right at the top of my Meet Glenn page. The Flagstaff House is internationally famous for their wine cellar. They are world renowned for having one of the only full collections of each bottling of Chateau Mouton Rothschild. They also have earned the Wine Spectators prestigious Grand Award each year since 1993 – one of the ten best wine lists in the world! So one of the mini-events we did during the reception was the son of the owner took us on a tour of the wine cellar and filled in some of the history about the restaurant, family and the wine. We also had made arrangement to have a special tasting for our guests
we knew were wine connoisseurs and the featured wine was a 1979 Opus One the first year if their bottling! See the picture we of one of the bottles we kept. While Noelle and I were on our honeymoon in Utah at The Sorrel River Ranch and happened to see a show in our suite that was an interview On PBS of an artist named Thomas Arvid. It was being shot in a studio that was featuring his work. During the interview of Arvid there was a painting in the b
ack ground that had a very clear remake of a bottle of Opus One and the name of the the Giclee’ print was “Between You and Me”. Both Noelle and I liked his work, the Opus One and the title we actually agreed when we got back to Colorado to look for the piece and buy it as a wedding gift to each other! So here is the odd and serendipitous moment. shortly after we returned to our home in Colorado we went to Cherry Creek – to visit the art galleries there to find the print we were looking for. At the time neither of us were – look on the web first people. We visited a few galleries with no luck – then we walked into a small gallery and there on the wall were quite a few of Thomas Arvid’s works. A gentleman greeted us and we told him the story and he had this wide grin on his face. After a few moments the reason came out- The show we had seen on public television had been shot in his gallery and he was the guy in the show interviewing Thomas Arvid. What were the chances of that!!! Serendipity! Obviously with that story we bought the print and it is in my office in our home. As I write up this post I look up at it and it brings we great pleasure, wonderful memories and I am extremely grateful for the beautiful art pieces we have and enjoy each and every day!
Beautiful art enhances the beauty of our lives and we are so grateful for that addition to our lives each day! We are grateful for the skill and talent of the artists and the opportunity to see the results of their talent each day in our lives

Glenn a very lovely post. Indeed art has that stunning potential to embrace memories and build new ones.
Love the synchronicity of both your art finds.
Hi Roisin! Thank you for the comments. There is such power in looking for and pursuing options that open to you through the power of synchronicity! It is not a complicated thing nor will it always be amazing in its results – but both my wife Noelle and I find following those synchronistic lurings to be powerful and more successful than not!
Happy Holidays
Glenn
